Doing housework?

That tiny little thing is a hand vac. I'm not sure but I think it was designed for crumbs. We couldn't afford a vacuum cleaner. I found that at a lawn sale for a buck and believe it or not for a long time I used that to clean the rug. It was tedious but did a better job than trying to sweep it with a broom. Tommy was fascinated by anything that made a sound. He just thought it was another toy.

I don't know which of them made the mess but they cleaned it up together.

I find it so hard to equate the man who helped to clean up here with the man he was at Mill Street. I see now from reading old stuff that in Hawaii he was different but he still had some of the man he was then inside him here at State Street. Maybe it was gradual and I just never had the time to notice. That crappy old worn out broom was all we had.

I made sure he had toys for Christmas but most of the expensive ones came from Grandmas and Aunties.

He loved playing in the dishwater.

He also loved climbing those drawers beside him.  He's standing in the bottom drawer with each of the others pulled out for steps. I heard a noise out there and came out to see what he was up to. He had made to the sink and was trying to climb up those tiny shelves in the corners. I don't know what he was after. I finally got the idea to put a yardstick down though all the handles of the drawers because I didn't think he could remove the stick or pull out all the drawers at once.
