A Fine Madness

I chose to love you.

The final choice was mine to make.

Not accepting what you offered,

Was the path I chose to take.

I couldn't settle for your friendship,

For loving you is a way of madness.

I could have lived with just a little

But without touching there can be no gladness.

Anything I wanted, you said I could get.

And yet you refused me the one thing I crave.

To love you is a form of dying.

I'll live my life in a lonely grave.

Some of us spend our lives in searching,

For that someone who really needs us,

Someone we can give our hearts to,

Someone we can really trust.

If I could have loved you for the moment,

I might have learned to live without you.

You insisted on a final goodbye,

Knowing full well how I felt about goodbyes, (and you,).

You'll always be there in my heart

Not in the space where all friends are,

But in the spot reserved for roses

The place with visions of a shooting star.

I have no fear of my tomorrows

Spent alone and without you,

Come tomorrow, there's another lifetime.

With the Great Spirit's love, I'll spend it with you.
