Hidden behind Bernie.

(We wanted a Saint Bernard. We got Bernie. We named him Saint Bernard.)

Mom and Sue and one of many cats that passed through our lives.

We moved many times during those early years. This one was taken when we lived in a cellar-house. It was only a cellar with one room on top. It was winter the short time that we lived there. I think we stayed for 2 months. It was here that we almost died. One night the coal fire backed up and the carbon monoxide fumes got to us. I remember Dad grabbing us one at a time and throwing us out side in the snow. I had woken up and headed for the "toilet" when I passed out and scrapped my chin on the floor. It made enough noise to wake dad up and put him in action.

We stayed home from school the next day which was a big thrill to us girls. The weird thing is that no one called the fire dept. or even asked for help even though we only lived a half block from the station. It wasn't until much later that we even knew how dangerous that time was.
