Tommy playing in water to cool off on the front porch
In the first place he's just a baby. In the second place, unless you were on the porch you couldn't see that he was without his clothes. The slats on the porch were close together. If you were just walking by, you might notice laughter and movement but you wouldn't see much else. Someone, not Tom, saw these photos later and had a hissy fit because I allowed him to be naked on the front porch.
I have never seen anything wrong with a child being naked but I came from a time when pedophiles were not on every corner. I would later learn that one lived in a house quite close to the elementary school. People said he had a right to live there because it was the house his parents owned. I never thought that was safe for the children. I always walked Tommy back and forth to school. That came much later.
This was a hot summer day and it was stifling in the house. I don't think he was even two yet. I took a small baby bath and put cool water in it and gave him a plastic boat to play with. He was having fun and he loved it. I could have put panties on him for all the prudes in town but I didn't. I believe he was still in diapers because I think he wore them for a short time when we moved to Mill Street.
His father was making believe he was going to get him but he didn't reckon on Tommy being smart enough to use the sprayer.
Seconds later they were both wet.
