These were called "Star of Bethlehem" They grew wild all over Colorado but especially in Garden of the Gods. I snuck some back with me when we went to New York and planted them in Mom's rock garden.

Just one of the critters!

Tom with George when he was little, George, not Tom. He was a lot smaller when he first came crying to the door in the rain.

On one of our hikes.

We once decided to hike all the way there and skip the bus. It was a hot summer day and I put on my black bathing suit and jeans, I think. We walked in the flood drains because they had about a foot of cold water running in them. Yes, I know how dangerous that was but I didn't know it then. I doubt if Tom had had much experience with flash floods either. I ended up with skin peeling blisters from it.

It was getting real hot and I was itchy. I kept splashing water on me thinking it would cool me. It did for a short time. We finally reached where we were going and continued hiking around. there was a small chapel at the farther entrance to the park. We went inside to cool off and rest. The chapel is left unattended at all hours but the park was supposed to be closed at night. There were no fences or gates and nobody seemed to bother with enforcing it. It was about two in the afternoon when we were there.

There are seldom any pictures of me because I never liked my picture being taken. I put up with it at times but I wasn't really happy unless I was behind the camera not in front of it. As you can see, Tom was reading his "bible" He was always happiest with a comic in his hands or a gun or a fishing pole. He was real upset because he found out when he went home on leave that his mom had tossed out his entire comic book collection. For years afterwards he haunted shops for second hand comics. We brought home a lot from Hawaii.

That flower is very light but it is there.
