Eyes
I see the world
Through different eyes
Sometimes mine
And sometimes yours.
Sometimes
I see the world
Within the tigers eyes
Beneath your velvet lashes.
At times your naked soul
Peers out at me in pain,
In love, and sometimes
Just in passion.
At times
The fire in your eyes
Burns my skin
Like hot July sun.
I have never seen
The cold sharb stab of hate
Within those doors
You close so quickly.
I'm sure you must
Have hated once
But I have been lucky
I have not seen you hate.
If I take the time to look
Behind the surface vision of myself
I might behold such wonders
In your eyes.
If you do not shut me out
By drawing close your shutters
As the Venus fern
Draws close her fatal arms.
I'll see the very
Depth of you
Your inner soul
You will not hide from me.
By looking deep
Within your eyes
I put myself
In danger.
I leave my soul
Unguarded.
My doors are open
To your eyes.
I have looked
Into the eyes
Of at least a thousand others.
To me it seems,
That many eyes close in
Hiding from the pain.
They do not know
To see, they must be seen.
I wish that I
Could hold the power
To take the sadness
From your eyes.
I'd enter them
And polish up
The flecks of gold
Among the hazel.
For I cannot bear
To see your eyes
Shuttered,
Closed to the world.
