Safety Town
When Tommy was about to start school, he first had to go to Safety Town. The Lions Club had made up a tiny village and arranged it all with volunteers. They taught the kids how to be safe crossing streets, riding on buses, crossing train tracks and being around strangers. It was a very good program.
They rode big wheels around the streets. What kid wouldn't love that?
It lasted a week and a graduation ceremony was held where each kid wore a paper hat and got their diploma.
Officer Collette was there to fingerprint kids whose parents wanted it done. When I was born I was hand and foot printed but in later years they stopped doing that.
